Arizer Solo
De Arizer Solo is een draagbare vaporizer die werkt op een ingebouwde, oplaadbare accu. De vaporizer wordt gemaakt in Canada door Arizer, ook wel bekend van de V-Tower en Extreme. De Solo beschikt over een keramisch verwarmingselement en een glazen mondstuk. De bowl is vervaardigd uit borosilicaat glas.
De Arizer Solo is ongeveer even groot als een blikje Red Bull en weegt net iets minder dan 200 gram.
Een LED-indicatielampje geeft de temperatuur weer. Er kan gekozen worden uit 7 temperatuurinstellingen:
1: 50°C
2: 185°C
3: 190°C
4: 195°C
5: 200°C
6: 205°C
7: 210°C
Bij het aanzetten van de Solo kan de laatst gekozen temperatuur automatisch onthouden worden.
Afhankelijk van de gebruikte temperatuur heeft de accu een levensduur van 3 tot 4 uur. Het opladen duurt 4 uur, gedurende deze tijd kan de vaporizer niet gebruikt worden. Belangrijk om te weten is dat de accu niet door de gebruiker vervangen kan worden.
Om stroom te besparen schakelt de Arizer Solo vanzelf uit na 12 minuten.

Arizer Solo Review
By Vaporizer Info on 18-07-2011Voor de lancering was er vrijwel niets bekend over de Arizer Solo. Toen de eerste exemplaren eenmaal verkocht waren stroomden de positieve ervaringen op fora en websites binnen. De verwachtingen voor deze derde vaporizer van het Canadese Arizer waren hier dan ook hooggespannen.
Uiterlijk
De Solo wordt geleverd in een kartonnen doos met veel beschermingsfolie, vooral rondom de glazen onderdelen. Alle losse onderdelen zijn grondig verpakt in bubbelfolie, om beschadiging tijdens transport te voorkomen.
Meegeleverd zijn:
- 1 Arizer Solo Vaporizer (in de handleiding wordt gesproken van een 'Multi-purpose Battery Powered Micro Heater')
- 2 glazen opzetstukjes
- 1 glazen potpourri bowl
- 1 oplader (en in ons geval ook een verloopstekker)
- Handleiding
- Probeerverpakking aromatherapie kruiden
Voordat we de Solo zelf konden uitproberen hadden we al diverse berichten gelezen over de afmetingen en we wisten dat het apparaatje ongeveer even groot was als een blikje Red Bull. Uiteraard moesten we deze vergelijking zelf ook maken, en het blijkt dat de Solo zelfs ietsje kleiner is (zonder glazen mondstukje).
De vaporizer voelt erg stevig en solide aan en is ietsje zwaarder dan verwacht. De enige onderdelen van plastic zijn het frontje waarop ook de temperatuur wordt weergeven, inclusief de voet. Al met al is het een vaporizer die zeker tegen een stootje kan.
Een ander pluspunt is het extra glazen mondstukje wat standaard wordt meegeleverd. Want hoewel de Solo zelf erg stevig is, blijft glas kwetsbaar en een reserve onderdeel is geen overbodige luxe.
Aan de bovenkant bevindt zich een rubberen klepje, wat kan worden geopend en waar het glazen mondstukje in past.
Werking
Na de Arizer Solo enige tijd te hebben opgeladen (ongeduldig als ik ben heb ik de batterij niet volledig opgeladen) is het nu tijd om te testen of de lovende kritieken over de kwaliteit van de damp waar zijn.
Omdat ik erg nieuwsgierig ben naar de opwarmtijd gebruik houd ik de tijd bij: De Solo heeft slechts 2 minuten en 40 seconden nodig om van 0 (idle) tot stand 7 (210°C) te verwarmen. Behoorlijk indrukwekkend voor een draagbare vaporizer!
Tijdens het opwarmen knippert het rode 'HEAT' lampje en het opwarmproces wordt bijgehouden door de overige LED's, die verspringen naar mate een hogere temperatuur is bereikt.
Een functie die standaard aan staat bij elk exemplaar is de 'BEEP' functie. Dit zorgt ervoor dat bij het aanzetten en veranderen van temperatuur een irritant luide pieptoon hoorbaar is. Gelukkig kan dit worden uitgeschakeld door de knop met het pijltje omhoog gedurende 2 seconden ingedrukt te houden.
Bij het vullen van de glazen kop vond ik het handig om eerst de onderkant van het glazen onderdeel te vullen, en de Solo op z'n kop te houden om zo de kop te verbinden met het verwarmingselement. Hierdoor kan er geen wiet uit vallen. Een klein minpuntje is dat het glazen onderdeel iets te los zit, waardoor de kans op beschadiging of het laten vallen groter is. Ik had dan ook liever gezien dat het uiteinde van de kop van gezandstraald glas was, en iets nauwer zou aansluiten.
Na het vullen en voorverwarmen werd het tijd om te te kijken hoe het gesteld is met de kwaliteit van de damp. Inhaleren gaat prima, door de kleine gaatjes in het glazen opzetstukje (aan de onderkant) komt voldoende lucht door, resulterend in flinke dampwolken! Hierin wint de Solo het dan ook met afstand van concurrenten. Geen enkele draagbare vaporizer die ik heb getest is in staat om zulke stevige damp te produceren. Dankzij de glazen onderdelen is ook de smaak uitstekend. Van rare bijsmaakjes is absoluut geen sprake.
De bediening van de Arizer Solo is zeer eenvoudig, en er is geen sprake van een 'learning curve', wat bij andere draagbare vaporizers soms wel het geval is.
Eindoordeel
De Solo heeft alles wat je van een draagbare vaporizer met ingebouwde accu mag verwachten, en er zijn slechts enkele kleine minpunten te bedenken. Zo zou handig geweest zijn als de vaporizer ook gebruikt kon worden tijdens het opladen (al schijnt hier wel een aparte lader voor te komen). Tevens zou een opberghoesje of tasje standaard bijgeleverd mogen worden, zeker gezien de vrij hoge aanschafprijs. Verder kan de ingebouwde accu alleen door Arizer zelf worden vervangen bij een defect, wat niet alleen onhandig is gezien het heen en weer sturen, het kost ook nog eens 95 dollar.
Qua formaat is de Solo welliswaar niet zo klein en onopvallend als de Magic-Flight Launch Box, maar de lange levensduur van de accu maakt dit meer dan goed.
Los van een aantal kleine minpuntjes werkt de Solo feilloos, en is het momenteel met afstand de meest indrukwekkende draagbare vaporizer. Hij is welliswaar wat aan de prijzige kant, maar gezien de kwaliteit en prestaties is de Arizer Solo z'n geld absoluut waard.

By Vaporizer Info on 15-07-2011Prior to the launch, not much information had leaked about Arizer’s new portable vape, the Solo. It is the third vaporizer coming from the Arizer Tech company, and expectations were high this time. Time to take a closer look at this Canadian made portable vaporizer!
Looks
The Solo comes securely packed with lots of protective foil, especially around the glass parts. All parts are securely and separately packed to avoid damage during transport.
Inside the box we find:
- 1 Arizer Solo Vaporizer (or as described on the instruction sheet, ‘Multi-purpose Battery Powered Micro Heater’)
- 2 glass diffuser tubes
- 1 glass potpourri dish
- 1 charger (and in our case, a EU adapter plug)
- Instruction manual
- Herbal sample
Prior to receiving our Solo, we had read about the unit’s dimensions and knew it was about the size of a small soda can. Of course we had to verify this, and it turned out the Solo is just a little bit smaller than the size of a Red Bull can – the mouthpiece excluded. The vape is quite compact and feels very sturdy. The only plastic parts on the exterior are the buttons and the the part where the LED’s are, which runs onto the base. The Solo looks and feels like it can take a beating.
It is nice to see it comes with a spare diffuser tube, cause even though the glass is fairly thick, it’s still prone to breaking.
On the top of the unit sits a small rubber port, which can be opened to attach the diffuser tube (or potpourri dish).
Function
After charging the Solo for some time (impatient as I am I didn’t fully charge it, which according to the manufacturer takes 4 hours) it is time to put it to use. Curious to know how long it takes to heat up from idle to heat setting 7 (410°F /210°C), I used a timer and found out that the Solo only needs 2 minutes and 40 seconds to fully heat up. Quite impressive!
When heating up, the ‘HEAT’ light flashes, and the heating process is shown by the lights going up from 1 until 7. All in all, operating the unit feels quite intuitive.
When out of the box, the Arizer Solo is set to beep when turned on and when pressing any of the buttons. I was happy to found out that this rather annoying beeping noise can be disabled by pressing and holding the UP button for a second or two.
When loading the diffuser tube I found it helpful to first load the tube, and keep the Solo upside down while connecting the tube, to avoid spilling herb. The glass tube easily fits into the heater, a bit too loosely to my liking. I personally would have preferred a ground glass connection that would hold the mouthpiece a bit tighter, although that would reduce the ability of the glass to rotate. As long as you keep the Solo upright there shouldn’t be any problems.
After loading up the glass stem with some grounded herb and switching it on, it was time to see if the Solo can beat its handheld rivals in terms of efficiency.
At temperature setting 6 the taste is great, all flavours are there and the temperature of the inhaled vapor seems to be just right. The hits are thicker than any other portable vaporizer tried I’ve tried, and there is virtually no learning curve. It is about as convenient as portable vaporizing can get.
The tiny holes in the glass tube didn't allow for any herb to pass through, but I could see this happen if one draws faster or when the herb is very finely ground.
Conclusion
The Arizer Solo is everything you could wish for in a battery-powered portable vape, and it is hard to come up with cons, apart from minor ‘flaws’ such as not being able to vape during charging and the fact that the built-in lithium battery can only be replaced by Arizer (at the cost of $95).
The quality and taste of the vapor produced by the Solo are unparalleled, and the fast heat-up time only adds to this. The well-thought-out design of the Arizer Solo makes it a very easy to use vaporizer.
I believe that this ease of use and the impressive battery life make up for its slightly larger size. It is still small enough not to draw unwanted attention, and let’s not forget that it is completely silent (provided you turn off the beep).

Arizer managed to pack the punch that comes out of the Q into a can sized portable unit.
How clever.
And it works... GREAT! No learning curve at all, and as you suck your first air currents through the device you blast off to a state of bliss.
What do I want more other then my Q and Solo? Food. That's about it. Oh yeah and herbs.

By Visitor on 02-12-2011I received the solo yesterday and was quite impressed it looks solid and feels solid. Easy to turn on and off and easy to adjust temps, and it reaches temps fairly quickly. The battery seems to last quite awhile,..still going on a full charge ( about 5 times used and still going strong) although it has an auto shut off @ 12 min.
The diffuser tubes that came with it seems like the holes are too small and I am not able to take a draw like i wanted or feel like it should, ( I do have a "box" style from vapor warez that has worked flawlessly for 5 years that hits hard and the air flow has not much resistance) so i may be biased but its not like hitting a pipe....Air has to basically go around the tube from the top, it does not go through any part of the machine or element which is like a cup that heats up then heats the tube ( can get very hot be careful!!!) which then vaps the goods, once you get used to hitting its ok ( still wish it had more air flow).... after turning it on it took 2 or 3 min to heat not too bad,....i tried at 4 first and it barely worked ,....basically put it at 6 to work descent...had a pretty strong plastic or rubber taste the first few times( again I use a vapor box that uses glass and ceramic which is very clean) but it does seem to be going away,...After i tested it I had to take off the cap to see what was going on and was a little disappointed to see a plastic " case" holding the heater,.....not sure if or how much chemicals get emitted by getting pretty hot......don't know, again seems like its going away.....Anyway as a vapor "SNOB" I only use vaporizers...for 5 years, and feel this could be a good alternative for vaping on the go.....we'll see.....take care!!!!

By dodiebird on 22-02-2012This was touted as "portable". The earlier reviews I read said it did better than the Whispr at altitude which is why I bought it. The "instructions", which don't tell you anything at ALL about how to operate it, give you a list of things the Solo will not do. Does not function well with temperature changes. The "glass" gets too hot to touch and you have to wait at least 2 minutes before disassembling. This is heavy and definetly NOT portable. The "glass" pieces do not fit so I contacted AllStarVapes.com the shady company I bought it from. They will not return or exchange or refund the product. BEWARE. The glass tubes do not fit in the device. Allstar told me to heat it up and the "mealeable material" (glass?) will mold to fit the unit. Dangerous. Also - I just learned you are not able to replace the battery yourself once it runs out. DON'T BUY THIS UNIT!! I have a friend with a Whispr and if you want portability - get that one. Bummed I can't get an exchange, etc. Anyone want to purchase a brand new Arizer Solo? Best for home use, or hotel, etc. Not for hiking, camping, on the go. . .
