In this review we’ll take a closer look at the Flowermate V5.0 vaporizer. This pocket vaporizer is produced by Chinese company Smiss, who have quite a bit of experience producing e-cigarettes and vaporizers, as they’ve supposedly also produced the Atmos vaporizers. Don’t let that scare you, as the Flowermate performs better than any Atmos product I’ve ever tried.

The Flowermate initially went under the name of Flowermate Vapormax-V, but this was later replaced with the name Flowermate V5.0. The V5.0 version also comes with a glass mouthpiece instead of a silicon mouthpiece. At the same time of the release of the V5.0, the V5.0S was introduced, featuring 3 temperature settings. What’s remarkable (and good to know) is that both versions look 100% identical, and only by keeping the power button pressed (this is how to adjust the temperature) one can tell whether it is a V5.0S or V5.0. We are reviewing the V5.0, but have also tried the temperature-adjustable version. More on that in the last part of our review.

Overview

The Flowermate is available in various colours, and features a (matte) painted aluminum casing, giving the unit a solid feel. Located on both the top and bottom of the vaporizer is a plastic sliding door, housing the mouthpiece (it fits in the bottom compartment) and covering the bowl part on the top. When not in use, the mouthpiece can be unscrewed to store in the bottom compartment. This is great for transportation, as it helps protect the mouthpiece from getting dirty and shock. Unfortunately the sliding doors are made out of plastic, diminishing the overall durable feel. What’s more, we found that on some units the slider sits a bit loose and can even come off when force is applied. The vaporizer is activated by a button on the side. Unfortunately, this button is also made out of plastic, making it a bit shaky.

The Flowermate is equipped with two 2600 mAh Samsung lithium batteries. This results in an impressive battery life of 2 hours and 40 minutes. For comparison: the Pax only features a single 2600 mAh battery. The Flowermate can only be charged via wall charger, this takes about 3 hours.

Ease of Use

The Flowermate switches on by tapping the button five times. As for the the V5.0S version goes, the different temperatures can be selected by keeping the button pressed until the LED changes colour. With just one button, the Flowermate is extremely easy to use, and I found that it is a great unit to demonstrate to people new or unfamiliar with vaporizing.

Cleaning the mouthpiece is a fairly simple task, as it can easily be taken apart to be soaked in ISO or a different cleaning solution. The chamber is somewhat more difficult to reach, and especially the screen at the bottom is prone to getting clogged with sticky resin and ABV. It would thus be best to prevent resin from building at the bottom up by regularly cleaning the bowl with a q-tip and some ISO alcohol.

Vapor Taste and Quality

No official statements on the preset temperature have been found, but various sources report that the Flowermate V5.0 (the version without adjustable temperature) operates a constant temperature of around 196 °C (385°F). The temperatures indeed seems to be a bit on the high side, extracting most of the flavour from the herb in just two to three hits. The flavor is good however, and the vapour production is not overwhelming, but definitely satisfying. It sits somewhere around that of the Ascent and Pax.

Editors Verdict
The Flowermate is a nice little vaporizer that does what it says on the tin. The build quality is good enough considering the fairly low price. The temperature seems a bit on the high side, extracting most of the flavour in just one or two hits. However, the ABV is nice and uniform, making the Flowermate a very effective vaporizer. There’s no suspicious taste and the airpath seems safe, contrary to many other inexpensive Chinese vapes. What’s more, the lack of a learning curve coupled with the ease of use (1- button operation) makes it just great for those new to vaporizing. Pretty much anyone who knows how to inhale can use this thing. Recommended!
